Dick and Jane Title

Schaller utilizes images of famous "Dicks" and "Janes," including Dick Tracy and Jane from Tarzan, in this series of whimsical paintings. Iconic images, such as Jane Fonda as Barbarella, connect with seemingly innocent images of cats and dogs developing an underlying narrative for a more sophisticated audience. These paintings maintain all of the qualities of a traditional painting, such as composition and color, while using these qualities and the subject matter in a fanciful, unique way. In Schaller's paintings, the images, when placed next to each other, are taken out of context. The juxtaposition of the images give them different meanings and have a sophisticated humor about them not normally found in art.
