Palimpsest Title

A palimpsest is a manuscript page from a scroll or book that has been scraped off and used again. Romans wrote on wax-coated tablets that could be smoothed and reused. Schaller explores this reworking by using previous paintings and allowing them to melt in the sun. Once the image is melted it is scraped away and new imagery is painted. This allows Schaller to take a creative leap in composition because he must consider the previous imagery.
